Deux personnes décédées après avoir été heurtées par des trains au nord et au sud de Lyon

Two tragedies occurred almost simultaneously this Friday afternoon, August 8, on the department’s railways. Two people died after being struck by regional trains, north and south of Lyon.

The first accident occurred between Grigny-sur-Rhône and Vernaison, shortly before 4 p.m. “According to initial findings, the victim threw himself under a freight train, near a level crossing,” SNCF explained.

Traffic is currently suspended between Givors and Lyon Perrache and is expected to resume around 6 p.m. However, TER trains have been diverted and are running between Givors and Lyon Part-Dieu.

Third tragedy in three days

At around 4:20 p.m., the SNCF reported a second accident involving a person on the tracks near Sathonay, north of Lyon. “The person lay down on the tracks near Sathonay station,” the SNCF continued.

Traffic is interrupted here on the Lyon-Bourg-en-Bresse line. TGV trains are being diverted from the high-speed line and continue to run on the conventional line, causing delays to and from Part-Dieu station. The time for normal traffic to resume is estimated at 6:45 p.m.

In both cases, the SNCF initiated its personal injury procedure. Firefighters and police attended the scene.

Two days ago, Wednesday, August 6, a man died from his injuries after being hit by a train in Arnas, near Villefranche-sur-Saône. While suicide is still the preferred theory, an investigation has been opened to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy.
