Actor and comedian Andy Dick experienced a frightening health emergency in Hollywood this week, after what witnesses described as a possible drug overdose on a public staircase. The incident, captured on video and shared by those on the scene, shows Dick unresponsive as friends and bystanders desperately attempted to revive him.
The video, recorded Tuesday in broad daylight, shows the 59-year-old entertainer slumped over on a set of cement steps outside a Hollywood building. His glasses were on the ground beside him, and he appeared completely unconscious as people rushed to help.
Friends and Bystanders Attempt Life-Saving Measures
Witnesses say several people who know Dick happened to be nearby and immediately ran to his side. One individual was live-streaming at the time and can be heard shouting for Dick to wake up as others called emergency services.
During the commotion, a bystander can be heard urging someone to retrieve Narcan a medication widely used to reverse opioid overdoses. The video indicates that someone on scene administered the nasal spray while others assessed his condition.
Paramedics Respond, But Dick Declines Hospital Transport
According to the Los Angeles City Fire Department, emergency medical crews were dispatched to the location for an overdose involving a 59-year-old man. Paramedics confirmed they treated the individual on scene but did not transport him to a hospital.
In many overdose cases, Narcan can restore consciousness within moments, and individuals frequently refuse further treatment afterward. It appears this may have happened in Dick’s case.
The Los Angeles Police Department also responded after receiving the same emergency call.
